Community Water Fluoridation

Fluoride is critical to the development of tooth enamel, and regular exposure to fluoride in drinking water is an effective and cost-efficient strategy for maintaining tooth health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) declared community water fluoridation as one of the greatest public health achievements of the 20th century. Fortunately, 99 percent of Illinois communities fluoridate their water sources, ranking third highest in the country.
