In early 2015, Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation, Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation and Michael Reese Health Trust formed a partnership to focus on obtaining a better understanding of the oral health landscape in Illinois. The initial part of this collaboration involved data gathering and interviews to develop a statewide oral health assessment (SOHA). The goal of the assessment was to produce a comprehensive snapshot of the state of oral health for all Illinoisans that can be used as a blueprint moving forward to achieve better health for our residents — from pregnancy and infancy through older adulthood. The assessment was the first step in our ongoing commitment to improve oral health care for all and serves as a starting point for funding partners, nonprofits organizations and individuals that work to improve Illinois’ oral health.
